‘Oh Freedom!’ to be performed at Park Avenue Theater

January 30, 2020

Virginia Opera’s “Oh Freedom!” is a musical production honoring the history of African Americans from slavery through the struggles and successes of the Civil Rights Movement to date. “Oh Freedom!” will be performed on Friday, February 28 at 7:30 p.m. at Park Avenue Theater in Norton.

The musical journey begins in Africa and follows a chronological path through the Middle Passage to songs of slavery to the Civil Rights movement and finally to the election of the first African-American President of the United States. Audiences will learn about the role music played in the tumultuous transition from slavery to freedom. “Oh Freedom!” also highlights other African American musical contributions to forms such as opera and jazz, in addition to honoring the life and legacy of leaders in music, sports, science and civil rights as the arts come alive through this powerful presentation.

This performance is brought to you by the Pro-Art Association in conjunction with Park Avenue Theater. Tickets are $5 at the door, and all students and children are free to attend. Pro-Art season tickets will be honored for this event.
