ROBERT R. SPARKS JR.

Robert R. Sparks Jr. 83, of South Carolina, passed away on Monday January 20, 2020 at his home after a long battle with cancer and COPD.

Mr. Sparks was a native of Pound, VA.

He was preceded in death by his parents Robert Roy Sparks Sr. and Cotella Omega (Cox) Sparks and sister Nancy Louise Sparks. He served in the United States Navy and was a machinist for most all of his working years. He retired from Clemson University. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hiking, trout fishing, camping and hunting.

He is survived by longtime companion Barrie Smith and a son and daughter from his only marriage to Patricia (Chandler) Sparks (deceased). Son Robert R. Sparks III and wife Tammie (Brady) Sparks, daughter Suzanne Sparks and wife Penny Turner. Also surviving are two brothers, Rudy Sparks and wife Janet Sparks, Tom Sparks and wife Jean Sparks; two grandchildren Robert Jarred Sparks and wife Brock (DuBose) Sparks, Jessica Fayth Sparks, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

A memorial service will be held at Keowee Funeral Services (formerly Brown-Oglesby Funeral Home of South Carolina) on Sunday, Feb. 2 from 2 to 3 pm. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Chattooga Conservancy at chattoogariver.org
