Roger D. Beverly, 72, of Wise, went home to be with the Lord on January 8, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Roger attended Mt. Olive Freewill Baptist Church in Wise. Roger worked as a heavy equipment mechanic for 35 years. He proudly served two years in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam veteran. He was also a member of the VFW and DAV. Roger was devoted to his family and friends. He loved his hot rods, his country and his “Big Buddy” Connor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hiram Beverly and Hazel Beverly; and siblings, Jimmie Beverly, Wilburn Beverly, Faye Franklin, Lester Beverly, Douglas Beverly, Dinah Kilgore, Georgia Bradley, Freida Hensley and Jeffery Beverly.

Surviving are his loving wife of 52 years, Sharon Bishop Beverly; son, Rod Beverly; daughter, Dina Beverly Bentley and husband John; grandson, Connor Short; many special nieces, nephews, family and friends.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of MSHA Home Health and Hospice of Wise, VA and the staff of Southwest Virginia Cancer Center of Norton.

Funeral services for Roger D. Beverly will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, January 10 at the Sturgill Funeral Home chapel in Wise with Bro. Jody Collins, Pastor Tommy McAmis and Elder Stacy Potter officiating. Family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until time of services. Graveside committal services and burial with Military Rites will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 11 in the Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood. Family and friends will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home to go to the cemetery in procession. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Southwest Virginia Cancer Center Patient Fund for Roger Beverly, 671 HWY 58 East, Norton, VA 24273.
