DONALD EDWARD POTTER

Donald Edward Potter, 77, of Wise, left the home he knew on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 to embark on a new journey with the love of his life, Darnell Sexton, who had been waiting for him in Heaven. When you look up into the heavens and see two bright shining stars side-by-side you know you have found them somewhere just beyond watching over you.

Donald was the son of Claude and Hattie “Perry” Potter of Wise; and the oldest of two children.

Donald worked hard his entire life. He worked for a short time as a coal miner, a farmer, a factory worker and a service station attendant. He became disabled in later life and used his remaining years to bring joy to his children and grandchildren’s lives. He was an engaging storyteller and he taught people the importance of love, acceptance, humor, culture and the pursuit of knowledge. Donald was loved by many for being sweet, generous and loving man. The family wishes to thank all who have brought care, love and joy into his life during his time with us.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; and his loving wife, Darnell Sexton.

Those remaining to remember his gentle soul are his children, Jennifer Potter-Sturgill, Donivan-Dejah Potter; grandchildren, Bryan Sturgill and Karen Sturgill; sister, Ethel Potter Welch and husband Russell Hill; sisters-in-law, Helen Tull and husband David and Beatrice Dean; brother-in-law, Hershel Sexton; many nieces, nephews and cousins who he loved greatly; and a host of other relatives, neighbors and friends.

Visitation for Donald Potter will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6 at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise. Graveside committal services and burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, in the Wise Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home to go to the cemetery in procession.
