Central takes one-act titles

Central High School’s one-act theatre team placed first in The Mountain 7 District Theatre Festival on Oct. 26 at Lee High School. Emma Chandler received an Outstanding Actor award.

On Saturday, Nov. 16, Central placed first at the Region D Theatre Festival at Central. Emma Chandler and Reece Elkins received Outstanding Actor awards at the regional level.

The team, directed by Jan Thompson, will travel to Charlottesville to compete in the 2A VHSL State Theatre Festival on Monday, Dec. 2 at Monticello High School.

The 24 team members include Caleb Adams, Nicole Aguirre, Zoey Barker, Emma Chandler, Reagan Dotson, Reece Elkins, Emily Hall, Sagan Holbrook, Nick Jackson, Emily Jett, Ellianna Kudirka, Makenna Louden, Harper McCall, Emily Mullins, Sydney Phillips, Izah Qureshi, Haley Ricketts, Elle Smith, Taylor Sanders, Emma Stallard, Mackenzie Stidham, Madison Sturgill, Draak Sutphin and Alex Vincer.

Billy Thompson is the team’s set designer. Elaine Sheldon is the team’s choreographer. Madi Fields is the set artist.

This marks the 15th time that Jan Thompson has taken her one-act team to state.

The play, “Mockingbird,” was written by Julie Jensen and tells the story of an 11-year-old girl on the autism spectrum.
