Spirit of Giving

Spirit of Giving concert featuring Kaitlyn Baker will be held Saturday, Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. at J.W. Adams Combined School in Pound. Admission is a donation to Family Crisis Support Services. This is a nonprofit organization that helps victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and homelessness in our area. All donations will go to help the shelter and victims in need. This is a great way to give back this holiday season!

Holiday concert

The UVA Wise Jazz Ensemble, led by Dr. Donald Sorah, will present its 2019 Holiday Concert at the Appalachia Cultural Arts Center on Monday, Dec. 2 at 6:30 p.m. This performance has become a beloved tradition for the members of the ensemble and those who regularly attend. This concert will feature many jazz classics, concluding with a set of traditional holiday favorites. Featured soloists will be Jason Bailey (Norton), Reuben Weitzman (Big Stone Gap), Jim Wardell (Wise). and Joseph McNulty (Richlands).

Coeburn Christmas parade

Come join us for the Christmas parade in Coeburn, Friday, Dec. 6 at 6:30 p.m. Line up will begin at 5:15 p.m. at Food City in Marty Shopping Center. We invite all churches, businesses, organizations, pageant winners and individuals. The theme is “12 Days of Christmas”. Prizes will b awarded, 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Christmas play

The Appalachia Cultural Arts Center presents a free Christmas gift to the community of Appalachia and surrounding area on December 13 at 7 p.m. a play entitled “Twelve Plays of Christmas” by author Pat Cook under the direction of Pamela Counts. No better time to enjoy a Friday evening to help get in touch with your Christmas spirit than to attend a good play and it’s free.  For information call Gary Bush at 276/565-1386.

Al-Anon group meetings

A new Al-Anon Family Group meets in Norton on Mondays at noon at All Saints Episcopal Church in the Parish Hall, “The Parlor” room. Please enter at the back of the church. The church is located at 1025 Virginia Ave NW, Norton. The group also meets on Tuesdays at 4:30 p.m. at the Wesley Foundation, 9304 Coeburn Mountain Road, Wise.
