Local volleyball athletes shine in superlative lists

With all of our local volleyball completed for the year, the coaches sat down together and decided on the best of the best.

In the Mountain 7 District and Region 2D, all-time VHSL scoring leader Union’s Emili Brooks was named player of the year. Lady Bears’ head coach Kim Moore also took the coach of the year honors.

Union’s Jayda Smith was named first team all district and first team all region. The Lady Bears had two more honors as freshman setter Brooke Bailey and freshman libero Isabella Blagg were named second team, all district. All district, honorable mention honors went to seniors Krista Meredith, Autumn Varner and Abbi Dickenson.

Central’s Hannah McAmis received first team, all district and first team, all region honors as a defensive specialist. The Lady Warriors’ Charlee Long was named second team, all district while Bayleigh Allison, Gabby Hall and Caitlin Glover were all district, honorable mention.

Ridgeview’s Haley Mullins also received all district, honorable mention.

In the Cumberland District, Eastside took all honors: Anna Whited, player of the year; Kaylee Yates, hitter of the year; Tinley Hamilton, setter of the year; Kacie Jones, libero of the year and head coach Brianne Bailey received coach of the year honors.

The Lady Spartans’ Laura Lanteri was also named first team, all district while Haley Mitchell and Lessi Sensabaugh were all district, honorable mentions.

Burton’s Bailey Sturgill and Akyssa Hollinger received second team, all district honors while Breana Motz was named second team, all district.

In Region 1D, Patrick Henry’s Ella Maiden received player of the year and Pam Newberry received coach of the year honors.

Whited and Yates were named first team, all region while Lanteri and Hamilton received second team, all region honors. Jones was named as an honorable mention for Region 1D.
