Highland Winds, Burton band fall concert Nov. 11 at UVa-Wise

The Highland Winds of the University of Virginia’s College at Wise and the John I. Burton Bands will present a fall concert on Monday Nov. 11.  The concert will take place in the David J. Prior Convocation Center at 7 p.m. The John I. Burton Band is under the direction of Ryan Huntington, a graduate of UVA-Wise with a degree in Music Education. The Highland Winds’s conductor is Richard Galyean.

The Highland Winds are made up of students, faculty and staff from UVA-Wise and community members, including several local high school band directors. Their program will include works by Robert W. Smith, Samuel R. Hazo and Frank Erickson.

The program will also include a new work by local composer and UVA-Wise bands staff member Jason Bailey entitled Placidity. Bailey will also conduct his work.  

The program will conclude with a rousing salute to our Armed Forces in honor of  Veterans Day. The concert is free and open to the public.
