Betty Newton’s late husband James L. Newton, or Tom to all his family and friends, competed in and won prizes in the Fall Fling for several years. He died unexpectedly last winter. Betty wanted to do something to honor his memory, and aproached Bonnie Aker, who coordinates the event, about sponsoring the prize for someone just beginning to do photography, as an encouragement. Melissa Phillips, a first timer to the Fall Fling photo competition, was the winner.
