Retired UVa-Wise Athletic Director Ray Spenilla speaks to a gathering of AHP fall sports leadership winners, their family and friends and coaches during Sunday’s Sports Leadership Dinner sponsored by The Coalfield Progress, The Dickenson Star and The Post. Spenilla spoke on the character of being a leader in life as well as in athletics. Good leaders have honorable motives, he told the young athletes. “If you want to judge a person’s character see how that person treats somebody that can do absolutely nothing for them,” said Spenilla. He said that people should try to live their life with the fewest regrets possible. And, he said that leaders should always be aware that people are watching and influenced by what they do. “You may die, but your influence lives on.” RODDY ADDINGTON PHOTO.Click Hereto order photo reprints
