The city opened its parade festivities Sunday with a new location and new event tailored after old-fashioned Christmas tradition. It drew a big crowd, with free hot chocolate for everyone, singing by the new SWAG group (Students with a Gift) and Christmas trees for sale. The event and annual tree-lighting ceremony was held in the lot next to the farmer’s market, where councilman Terry Roop welcomed the crowd and got help from Santa, Mrs. Claus, Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer to throw the magic switch to turn on the lights.
