Five eighth grade Coeburn Middle School students will soon send 25 hand-sewn dresses to young girls living in Mexico. The effort, organized by family and consumer science teacher Karla Shepard, is part of a much larger initiative known as Dress a Girl Around the World. The budding 14-year-old dressmakers include, from left to right, Heather Hemphill, Natasha Messer, Alexis Hampton, Mazie West and Makayla Funk, along with Shepard.
