Clintwood native Anthony Moore (center) wrote the text for this Civil War Trails marker in Keokee commemorating Daniel Ellis’ piloting activities during the war. Ellis was a unionist from East Tennessee who guided men across southwestern Virginia to eastern Kentucky, where they could join the Union army. Moore was among speakers at a dedication ceremony for the marker on Saturday, Aug. 31. Moore wrote the text as part of a past class at UVa-Wise, where he is a senior history major. With him are his parents, Sandy (left) and Leo Moore.
