Lone Mountain Processing’s 2013 Mine Rescue Team observed National Mine Rescue Day on Oct. 30. Team members are (left to right) Michael Bennett, captain; Jude Johnson, first gas man; Michael Sloan, alternate; John Rutherford, briefing officer; Jimmy Rouse, map man; Jody Napier, tail captain and Joe Eldridge, tail captain. This year’s team was recognized as the Best Virginia First Aid Team at the National Contest in Columbus, Ohio. Rouse, Bennett and Sloan are the members of the first aid team. The team placed second overall in the Harlan County Safety Days contest and in the Virginia Expo Contest and third in Virginia’s Governors Cup competition.
