Julie Higgins, Castlewood High School Math Department chairperson, accepts 50 new TI-84 Plus graphing calculators purchased by the school. The calculators, valued at $4,786.50, were presented by Celebrate My Drive chairpersons, Mandi Hylton and McKayla McCoy. The purchase was made possible through a State Farm Insurance grant awarded to the school which focused on Teen Safe Driving. Teachers at the school were encouraged to request instructional materials through an application process. The Math Department made the request for new graphing calculators in an effort to provide accessibility to calculators during class time and to enable the department to loan the calculators for use at home, making students accustomed to the calculators to be used while taking SOL examinations.
