Republican U.S. Senate candidate Ed Gillespie was in Norton Monday as part of a three-day campaign swing through Southwest Virginia. Here, Gillespie, center, gets a tour of the Carbonite plant in the Blackwood area near Norton. The plant, operated by alternative fuels researcher Dick Wolfe and his son Eric Wolfe, converts coal into mercury-free carbon, coke and synthetic gas. Gillespie is challenging incumbent Democratic Sen. Mark Warner in the Nov. 4 election.
