Heat wins Commonwealth championship

The Southwest Virginia Heat basketball team won the gold medal in the grade 8 boys division at the 25th annual Commonwealth Games of Virginia on July 18 and 19 in Roanoke, The Commonwealth Games is an elite tournament that features over 9,000 athletes and over 50 sports. The Heat competed against others from all over Virginia, The team is comprised of players from Big Stone Gap, Gate City, Honaker, Abingdon, and Kingsport, Tenn. Those pictured include, left to right, Mack McClung, James Mitchell, Matthew Diminick, Zac Ervin, Ean Basham, Blake Stinson, Brandon Sample, Brett Boyd and Hartley Hilton.
