While it took more than a year to finally get all the necessary pieces of the Boggs Avenue bridge repair project in order, Virginia Department of Transportation crews made quick work of the effort on Tuesday. After getting temporary transport plans in play, VDOT closed the bridge, positioned the crane and removed the old wooden bridge decking and rusted ironworks underneath. Then, the crane lifted pre-cast concrete slabs from the transport truck, swung them over the creek and began lowering them into position, guided by VDOT crews on the bridge. They had the bridge in place and open to traffic by the end of the day. Final paving comes next. JENAY TATE PHOTO.Click Hereto order photo reprints
