Friday night football in the coalfields is more than just a high school sporting event. It’s a social event where friends gather to support their teams, cheerleaders and bands and their community. It’s a way of life in the coalfields as much as saying please and thank you. During the 11-week football regular season, The Coalfield Progress, Dickenson Star and The Post celebrate such gatherings with photos from throughout the region. As photographers throughout the region bring us memories with their cameras, we celebrate the Friday night tradition.
