Students who were part of April's Wallops Island rocket launch with six Wise County ThinSats on board helped spread the good word of their accomplishments to Wise County School Board last week. Science teacher and space enthusiast Jane Carter told the board that, among other things, she was struck by the difference in generations represented in the pre-launch briefing in which local students were included. Along with adults and older students, young primary students from Wise County fully understood the process and, after the launch, were back in the tent watching for the different stages of separation and determining that their satellites actually deployed. Wise County Superintendent Greg Mullins stands with students who assisted Carter, back row, far right, with her presentation. They were, first row, from left, Gracen Evans, Sophie Helbert, Isabel Sawyers, Madison Bryan, and back row, from left, Abigail Jackson, Landon Spain and Nicholas Sturgill.
