Alex Sluss of Clintwood killed this 425-pound black bear on December 17 in Dickenson County. This was his first black bear. Alex would like to thank his father, Marvin Sluss, for the inspiration and his brother, Richard Sluss, Bobby Doss and Chris Swiney for the help bringing the bear out of Pine Mountain. Hunting, fishing and other outdoor photos are published free of charge in The Coalfield Progress, The Dickenson Star and The Post sports pages. Because space on the sports pages is limited, the photos will run on a space available basis in the order they are received. To have your outdoor photos published, bring them into the newspaper’s office during regular business hours or e-mail them, with detailed information, to Sports Editor Kevin Mays at kmays@coalfield.com.
