City wall/sidewalk project almost done

Thomas Construction of Johnson City, Tenn., is putting final touches on the massive block wall/sidewalk construction project at Norton’s Tipple Hill intersection, which City Manager Fred Ramey hopes will be finished by mid-September. Construction began in early 2014, but was slowed by bad weather and the need to adjust to unexpected soil conditions. Once the sidewalk officially opens, pedestrians will be able to use it to get from the east side of Park Avenue near Dairy Queen, shown here, to Third Street on the far side of Norton Elementary and Middle School.
