POUND LAKE Size: 154 surface acres/13.5 miles wooded shoreline. Location: Pound. • Phillips Creek Recreation Area Location: Take U.S. 23 north toward Pound. Turn west on state route 671. Follow for 5.5 miles. Open May 15-Sept. 15. Recreation opportunities: Fishing; Beach area for swimming ($3 access fee); restrooms; volleyball court; picnic sites next to beach; six picnic shelters ($25 fee for shelters per 50 people); Hiking: 1.3-mile Phillips Creek Loop Trail and access trail to Pine Mountain. • Cane Patch Camping Area Location: Take U.S. 23 north to Pound. Turn west onto state route 671. Follow 671 for 6.5 miles. Recreation opportunities: Thirty-four site campground (May 15-Sept. 15). Campground can accommodate recreational vehicles up to 32 feet long; fishing; volleyball and basketball courts and playground equipment; and amphitheater. Fees: Non-electric sites, $12 per night; Electric sites, $17. • Pound Launch Location: Take U.S. 23 north to Pound. Turn west off bypass onto state route 630, half a mile north of U.S. Business 23, into Pound. Follow 630 almost a mile. Recreation opportunities: Year-round boat access to lake; hiking: trail to Hopkins Branch and 1.5-mile Laurel Fork Trail, which ends at Laurel Fork where a grassy field is available for primitive camping. Field is on lakeshore; fishing; picnicking at overlook. Fees: $1 per vehicle. Amenities: Paved boat launching ramp; 24-vehicle parking lot with space for trailers up to 22 feet.
