If seeking a leisurely stroll, visit the Guest River Gorge near Coeburn. The 5.8-mile rails-to-trails footpath follows the Guest River to its confluence with the Clinch River. Impressive sandstone cliffs often elevate the sound of the nearby river to a thunderous roar. Two trestles offer views of the Guest and Clinch rivers, and several waterfalls can be discovered just off the trail. See http://www.traillink.com/trail/guest-river-gorge-trail.aspx for more information and driving directions. If seeking more waterfalls, drive past the Guest River Gorge on state route 72 to Hanging Rock Recreation Area. Hike the 2.8-mile Little Stony National Recreation Trail that follows Little Stony Creek to several waterfalls, including Little Stony Falls, also a popular swimming hole. See http://www.traillink.com/trail/little-stony-national-recreation-trail.aspx for more information. WALLY SMITH PHOTO
