The annual Guest River Gorge litter cleanup was held Wednesday, May 25. A wildfire that scorched a section of the Gorge forced the original April 21 event to be rescheduled. Volunteers included Eastside and Central high schools' students, Flatwoods Job Corps Center students, Wise County Litter Control, and U.S. Forest Service Clinch Ranger District personnel. Participants collected a partial trailer-load of garbage that included a helium tank, rubber tires, and other miscellaneous items. The Clinch Ranger District offered a special thanks to Wise County Litter Control for providing lunch and for being an integral supporter and participant in cleanups the Forest Service hosts at the Gorge and other recreation areas.
