A 20-member crew from New Mexico’s Returning Heroes Wildland Firefighter Program arrived two weeks ago to help battle wildfires in Southwest Virginia. The state program provides training and work opportunities for U.S. military veterans in fighting wildland fires. KATIE DUNN PHOTO
