The James L Newton Award,  funded by Ms. Betty Newton, is  given in memory of James, a person who had great enthusiasm for photography, and also one who strived to become a better photographer. He understood that becoming a better photographer is mostly working at the craft. He entered the Fall Fling competition every year until he passed away. The prize is awarded each year to someone who the judges feel has shown improvement from the past year or years. This years winner was Mary Bise of Clinchco.
