J.I. Burton High School

In early 1952, students of Norton High and Norton Elementary walked two blocks from their schools on Virginia Avenue, led by the band and cheerleaders, to form the shape of a new high school on 11th Street, to be named for its principal, Prof. John I. Burton, who broke ground with several youngsters. The school opened in 1953 and the first class graduated in 1954.
