Many Nortonians and visitors have undoubtedly noticed a lot of construction work at the Norton Friends & Farmers Market building. According to City Manager Fred Ramey, this is part of the city’s upcoming downtown revitalization project, much of which centers around the farmers market and adjacent buildings. A new building façade is now being prepared. Other changes will include parking lot upgrades and demolition of the red brick building in the rear. The market will open in early June, but some projects will continue, hopefully with minimal impact on the market, Ramey said. The long-term goal is to create a center of activity that could include concerts and other events.
