Two third-year Lincoln Memorial University medical students received outstanding volunteer service awards at Norton City Council’s Tuesday meeting. Left to right are Nada Buntic, Mayor Joe Fawbush and Luke Persin. Buntic and Persin arrived in Norton in July 2022 and have been volunteering with the Norton Fire Department and Norton Rescue Squad since, according to Fire Chief Todd Lagow. Persin, of Greensburg, Penn., has aided the fire department with 121 incidents thus far. Buntic, of Erie, Penn.; Toronto, Ontario; and Belgrade, Serbia, has aided in 108. They both have helped the rescue squad with multiple standby events and emergency medical services incidents. June 1, Buntic and Persin became full members of the fire department and Buntic is the first woman in department history to do so. CITY OF NORTON PHOTO
