Tammy Bates, who has been president of the Wise Little League and Cal Ripken baseball programs, received a Hometown Hero award from Councilman Caynor Smith at Town Council’s May 23 meeting. Bates has raised money to provide numerous improvements at the Wise Sports Complex and has quietly provided extra assistance and equipment to children in need, said Smith, adding that she is one of the most deserving recipients in town history. ‘Your tireless effort and leadership has positively impacted the lives of our youth for many years to come.’ KENNETH CROWSON PHOTO
