Buffalo Bill and his Wild West Show toured England several times in the 1890s. Along with the rootin’, tootin’ and shootin’, in 1892, the company had a baseball team called the Wild Westerns that used to play against American music hall performers. For the British audiences, it was an introduction to America’s pastime in the most spectacular way. Baseball would never become as popular as cricket in the UK but it hung on, entertaining crowds there until the 1920s.   
The Appalachian Centennial Base Ball League will play 
its first game Saturday June 10 at 2 p.m. 
at J.I. Burton High School. Don’t miss it!
