Members of the Norton and Big Stone Gap fire departments recently staged this photo at the Powell Valley overlook to celebrate their joint effort to get new equipment. Last month, Norton Chief Todd Lagow explained that the units jointly applied for and got a federal grant to buy 52 self-contained breathing devices that cost a total of about $340,000. The local cost to both departments is roughly $16,000.
