In loving memory of our dad, grandad and great-grandad, Darrell Eugene Collins, 74, of Wise, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 22, 2020 in Kingsport Tennessee.

Darrell was a hero at five years old as he saved his sister from drowning on an old mine site.

He attended J.J. Kelly High School where he chose to join the U.S. Army before graduating. He dedicated himself to the City of Norton Little League by over 25 years of coaching, where he won multiple championships. During this time he worked for Evans Distributing Company along with Austin Powder Company.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Ethel Collins; his daughter, Tammy Cassell; and his brothers, Jimmy and Charles.

Surviving are his daughter, Denise Collins of Norton; sons, Alexander Hunnicutt and Holden Hunnicutt of Wise; grandson, Jacob Collins and wife Britney Collins of Coeburn; granddaughter, Haley Cassell of Norton; a great-grandson, Jayden Collins of Coeburn; two sisters, Betty Flanary and husband TJ and Wilma Draughn and husband Johnny; a brother, Freddie Collins; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Darrell Eugene Collins will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27 at the Sturgill Funeral Home chapel in Wise with Pastor Roger Jenkins and David Mullins officiating. Burial will follow in the Laurel Grove Cemetery in Norton. Family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until time of services at 2 p.m. Thursday.
