Quilt block challenge salutes veterans

October 19, 2019

Public voting begins Monday on a military-themed quilt block challenge that will end with full quilts being presented to two local veterans on Veterans Day.

The Fabric House in Pound has been conducting a monthly quilt block challenge and the final one of the year focuses on the tribute to veterans.

Each quilter has submitted with her block the name of one living veteran. Quilters were encouraged to enter at least two blocks, each incorporating in some fashion the monthly fabric selection, which was white with stars.

The quilts that will be made from all the entries will be awarded to the veterans selected by the first- and second-place winners of the quilt block challenge.

Public voting runs Oct. 21-26 at The Fabric House, where owner Susan Downs-Freeman, herself a veteran, welcomes everyone to visit, view the quilt block entries and vote for their favorite. You may vote once each day during the voting period.

The presentations will be made to the veterans on Nov. 11 at noon. Everyone is welcome to stop by and thank veterans for their service. Refreshments will be served.
