Valerie Potter holds the second baby born locally in 2011, Kariss Brooke Potter of Coeburn. She was born at 11:43 a.m. on Jan. 1 at Lonesome Pine Hospital, coming in at 6 pounds, 11.5 ounces and 18.5 inches long. In fact, Kariss was the first baby born in 2011 at any of Wellmont Health System’s hospitals, according to Wellmont spokesman Jim Wozniak.
