DONALD E. RUTHERFORD

Donald E. Rutherford, 85, passed away on Monday, November 28, 2022, at NHC Healthcare in Kingsport, TN.

He was born and raised in Exeter, VA. and lived most of his life in Appalachia, VA. He was a retired coal miner with Westmoreland Coal Co. and a member of the U.M.W.A. He was a member of Zion Family Ministries in Wise, VA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Andy Pat and Dora Mae (Aistrop) Rutherford; sisters, Betty Kelly, Deloris Price, Louise Estridge, Rosa Fay Klepper and Geneva Bailey; and brothers, Harold and Larry Rutherford.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Barbara “Bobby” Rutherford; brother, Jerry (Shirley) Rutherford of Alabama; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was conducted at 1:00pm Thursday, December 1, 2022, at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens with Pastor Wayne Hager officiating. The family and friends were asked to assemble by 12:20pm Thursday at Gilliam Funeral Home, 618 Wood Ave., W., Big Stone Gap, VA. 24219, to go in procession to the cemetery.
