JERLENE COLLINS MAGGARD

April 08, 2021

Jerlene Collins Maggard, 91, of Wise, went home to be with her loving heavenly father on Tuesday, April 6, 2021.

Jerlene was a devoted and loving member of the Lighthouse Family Worship Center in Wise, Virginia. Jerlene was lucky enough to marry her soulmate, Henry Maggard Sr at the young age of 15. She and her husband of 44 years raised four beautiful boys, Randy, Wendall, Danna Brent and Henry Maggard Jr.

Jerlene believed the most important job in life was to first be a good Christian and person, so she could be the best Mom and Wife to her family. She spent most of her adult life working as a waitress, with 14 years of that being at the Holiday Inn restaurant in Dundee, Florida. In her free time Jerlene loved to cook, and feed family and friends.

There was never a person that walked through her door that a meal was not offered and if she knew ahead of time the meal would be something she knew as your favorite. Spending time with her family was her number one priority, cooking, eating and laughing was a huge part of this family. Jerlene’s time with her sisters was almost magical. There was an unspoken connection that was shared between them. If the Collins girls got together, no matter what their ages, it was certain there would be shenanigans and laughter. If you were lucky enough to be with them you were laughing as well, and more than likely sitting at the dining table with a piece of homemade pie and a cup of hot coffee or glass of sweet tea.

Jerlene was preceded in death by her parents, Arville and Laura “Dewey” Collins; husband, Henry H. Maggard Sr.; sons, Randy Maggard and Danna Brent Maggard; sisters, Earthel Mullins, Margie Wood, LouWanda Maggard, Mary Collins Bolling, and Della Locke; and brothers, Vencil Collins and Coy Collins.

Surviving are her sons, Wendall Maggard and wife Nathalie of Davenport, Florida and Henry Maggard Jr. and wife Rebecca Maggard of Wise; 17 grandchildren, Randy Harold Maggard, Timothy Lee Maggard, Miranda Lee Maggard, Randy Williams, Tracey Reddick, Chris Puckett, Eve Butler, Billy Eugene Maggard, Nicole Fosmoe, Jason Maggard, Joshua Maggard, Jeremy Maggard, Clint Maggard, Henry Maggard III “Trey”, Michael J. Byrd, Justin Maggard and Ryan Maggard; 23 great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Nanney of Big Stone Gap and special gifts from God (like daughters), Sharon Carico and husband Doug of Wise and Joann King of Wise; brothers, Berry C. Collins and wife Annie Bell of Machinpongo, VA and Arville “Junior” Collins and wife Marylyn of Haines City, FL; and a host of other relatives and friends.
