JAMES RAY FREEMAN

James “Jimmy” Ray Freeman, 81, of Pound, gained the victory of Jesus unexpectedly on Saturday, January 9, 2021 from his son’s home. His loving family was by his side.

James was Christian of the Baptist faith. A loving father and friend. He was a retired carpenter, an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman. 

James was preceded in death by his by his loving wife, Elizabeth “Betty” (Jackson) Freeman; a son, Jonathan “Jody” Wayne Freeman; his parents, Guy L. and Frances (Dotson) Freeman.

James leaves behind two sons, James Steven “Steve” Freeman and wife Melissa- Pound and David Scott Freeman- Homer AK; grandchildren, Andrew Freeman, and wife Melissa of Pound, Larua Elizabeth Polly and David of Pound, Tiffany Freeman of Pound Ashley Freeman and Brandon Freeman both of Homer, AK.; great-grandchildren, Hayden Stanley, Journey Stanley, Lucas Freeman, Abigail Freeman and Deacon Polly; a sister, Donna Meade and husband Jerry of Pound; a brother, Gary Freeman and wife Margaret of Wise; nephews, Anthony “Tony” Wright and Jastin Freeman; a niece, Radess Meade; an ex-wife, Janice Freeman of Homer, AK.; special friends, Shirley Fleming of Pound and Mike Combs of Pound. (whom he loved like his own son.); a host of friends and loved ones to mourn his passing and cherish his memory.

Graveside services were conducted at 1 pm Wednesday, January 13 at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens - Big Stone Gap with Reverend Gary Freeman and Reverend Steven Freeman officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made to the Pound Rescue Squad- PO Box 711-Pound, VA 24279.
