JAMES ROSE

James Rose, 76, of Wise, got his wings Tuesday, November 3, 2020, as he left this world for Heaven. He was surrounded by his loving family.

James was a Christian. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was a man of many talents and held different jobs to provide for his family. He was a lifelong farmer and a former surface miner as well as an underground miner. He loved the outdoors, hunting, watching wrestling on Monday Night Raw, riding around and going to church. But his greatest joy was the time he spent with his family.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Fletcher and Myrtle (Little) Rose; his sisters Tenna Jean Tackett, Goldie Belcher, Nellie Branham and Pearlie Rose; and his brothers, Frank Rose, Crit Rose, Ira Rose, Jim Rose and Basil Rose; grandsons, Marty Jay Triplett and Larry Sergent Jr. 

Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years Evelina (Layne) Rose of Wise; his daughters, Anita Freeman (Jerry) of Wise, Phylisa Sergent (Larry) of Wise, Nellie Weaver (Billy) of Wise, Virginia Rose (Michelle Mullins) of Wise and Delena McCurdy (Thomas) of Wise; grandchildren Sylvia Mullins (Johnny), Christy Skeens (Shannon), B.J. Weaver (Candace), and Tiffani Baker (Nate), Kali Adams (John Allen), Chase Adams and Kierra McCurdy; great-grand-children Ayden Skeens, Jay Jay Triplett, Ryder Mullins, Kaegan Baker, Julianna Weaver Parker Mullins, Jayce Sergent and Amelia Baker; a brother, Dudley Rose (Jenny) of Norfolk, VA; several nieces, nephews and cousins; special friends Roger Dingus and Leonard Lester; and a host of friends and loved ones.

Funeral services were conducted at 7 pm Thursday, November 5 in the Baker Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Jack Calhoun and Reverend Roger Dingus officiating. The family received friends from 5 pm until time of services.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2 pm Friday November 6 at the Rose Hill Family Cemetery in the Rocky Fork Section of Wise where Jerry Freeman, Larry Sergent, Billy Weaver, Thomas McCurdy, B.J. Weaver, Chase Adams, Johnny Ray Mullins and Nate Baker will serve as pallbearers. Family and friends are asked to meet at Baker Funeral Home by 1 pm to prepare to go in procession to the cemetery.  

We will be following stat mandated occupancy and social distancing standards. Masks must be worn at all times and will not be provided by the family or the funeral home.
