The City of Norton is seeking a full-time Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation to plan, develop, supervise and administer all services of the Recreation Department. A Blue Ridge Outdoors “Top Adventure Town” of 2017, this High Knob community is at work at the intersection of outdoor recreation, Southwest Virginia cultural heritage, and creative placemaking. The ideal candidate will serve the citizens of Norton under the supervision of the Director of Parks and Recreation and must be team oriented, knowledgeable, and creative, demonstrating a strong desire to engage in and improve the community. Candidates for the position should be responsible, organized, and detail oriented. The position will be responsible for performing a variety of administrative and supervisory duties as needed to plan, organize, direct, and coordinate the establishment, organization, scheduling, and operation of various sports and recreation programs for the youth and adults of the City of Norton. The work schedule may vary to include nights and/weekends. A Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Parks and Recreation Administration or related field preferred, but a combination of education and experience may be considered. Salary is dependent upon qualifications, and the position includes a benefits package of competitive health insurance, funding in the Virginia Retirement System, and paid time-off including vacation, holiday and sick time.
