Music recital set for Nov. 21

November 18, 2019

The University of Virginia’s College at Wise Music Department will host “A Cornucopia of Windsgiving,” a clarinet and bassoon recital, on Nov. 21 at 7:30 p.m.
Featuring a variety of composers from Antonio Vivaldi to Alexandre Tansman and Francis Poulenc among others, Instructor and Clarinetist Suzanna Masters will take the stage with Student Bassoonist Brianna Rife.

Masters emphasizes the importance of such a performance, stating, “Opportunities like this present the chance for student musicians to hear and see their instructors in performance as well as to showcase some of our outstanding music students while featuring student-professor collaboration in concert.”

This is Rife’s premier solo performance on the bassoon at UVa-Wise, and she is excited to share her music with the public. She is especially thrilled to be playing alongside her instructor in this recital. “I love everything about what I do — performing and teaching . . . and to be privileged enough to perform alongside my teacher makes this event dear to my heart. Suzanna Masters has been wonderful to work with. She is incredibly invested into everything I have been trying to accomplish and every student she has. She puts her students before herself. I have learned so much from her in my short time of studies at UVa-Wise, and it is my hope that when the time comes, I may be able to embody her teaching philosophy and devotion when I begin teaching. It’ll be the first of what I hope are several recitals to come.”

The two performers will be accompanied by collaborative pianists D. Michael Donathan and Bomin Park. Donathan is a UVa-Wise professor emeritus of music. Park is an instructor of piano at UVa-Wise as well.

The event, held in Cantrell Banquet Hall on the UVa-Wise campus, is free and open to the public. Any questions may be directed to Suzanna Masters at sem7m@uvawise.edu.
