TITLE 45.1 CODE
Ken Energy Corporation of 235 Marigold Lane, Coeburn, Virginia 24230 is applying to the Virginia Division of Mined Land Reclamation for a permit to conduct coal surface mining and reclamation operations at the following location:
Off Route 72, 1.3 miles southeast of the intersection of Routes 640 and 72 near Darwin in Dickenson County. The proposed permit is situated in Mink Gap between Lyons Fork and Deadman Hollow watersheds. The proposed permit is located within the Caney Ridge USGS 7.5 min. quadrangle map.
Drainage and wastewater from the permitted operation will pass through approved sediment control structures (sediment basins 1 and 2, sediment channels SC-1A, SC-1B, SC-2A, SC-2B, SC-3A, SC-3B, and SC-4) and will be discharged into Lyons Fork and Deadman Hollow; a tributary to Alley Creek, which are tributaries to the Cranes Nest River.
A copy of the application materials is available for public inspection and comment at the Building Inspector’s Office in the Dickenson County Courthouse. A copy of the draft NPDES permit and fact sheet are available for public inspection and comment at the Division’s Big Stone Gap office. Any person whose interests are or may be adversely affected by the proposed operation, or an officer or head of any federal, state, or local government agency or authority may, within 30 days of July 17, 2013, submit written comments or objections to the Division of Mined Land Reclamation concerning the proposed operation, and may also request, in writing, that the Division hold an informal conference concerning the application.
