Norton’s own Bob Isaac was recently recognized as a “health care hero” by the Tri-Cities Business Journal.
The magazine on July 9 honored several health professionals and volunteers for their contributions to improving the region’s health and access to care. Among the honorees, according to a Wellmont Health System press release, were several Wellmont health professionals and one volunteer — Isaac.
A member of the board of directors for Mountain View Regional Medical Center and Lonesome Pine Hospital, Isaac, a retired businessman, volunteers regularly at the Southwest Virginia Cancer Center.
A prostate cancer survivor, Isaac is a fixture at the center. He’s there every day, helping out wherever he can, staff members say, and he works to coordinates daily contributions of free “love lunches” donated by local restaurants and food service providers to feed patients undergoing therapy.
Isaac also worked with patient advocate Pat Adkins to establish the center’s patient assistance fund.
