A Pound woman has been arrested in West Virginia after local authorities said she took her three children and fled Virginia.
According to the Wise County sheriff’s office, Lisa Cantrell, 50, became the subject of a criminal investigation after police received undisclosed information regarding her last Wednesday. When Cantrell learned she was being investigated, she took her children, aged 17, 12 and nine, out of school and left the state, according to a Monday press release.
Cantrell’s husband had been awarded temporary custody of the kids.
Family members and police feared for the safety of Cantrell and the children, according to the sheriff’s office. She was charged with parental abduction, and the kids were listed with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the National Crime Information Center.
Late Saturday night, local police were notified that Cantrell’s vehicle had been spotted in the Charleston, W.Va. area, and later learned that West Virginia state police had stopped her, according to the release.
West Virginia authorities helped return the kids to their father. Cantrell remains in West Virginia awaiting extradition back to Virginia.
The investigation continues, and more charges may be placed against Cantrell, the sheriff’s office said.
