The Clinch Coalition leads an overnight hike along one of Southwest Virginia’s premier hiking trails the first weekend of June.
The hike will cover the 19-mile Chief Benge Scout Trail and the Little Stony Falls National Recreation Trail.
The hike will begin at High Knob Tower at an elevation just over 4,000 feet above sea level and travel down the mountain to the Hanging Rock Recreation Area just above Dungannon.
The hike begins at 9 a.m. June 6 at High Knob Tower and continues 9.4 miles to Bark Camp Lake, where hikers will eat and camp for the night.
Below the lake, hikers will follow Mountain Fork, with several stream crossings, then trek over to the Little Stony watershed. The hike will continue June 7 from Bark Camp Lake to Hanging Rock.
The Clinch Coalition will provide shuttle service and meet hikers at various points along the trail to provide assistance as needed.
Dinner and breakfast will also be provided to participants; however, campsite fees and parking fees will be up to the hikers.
This is a difficult hike, but experienced TCC members will be present to help along the way. All ages are welcome, but an adult must accompany hikers under 18. Adults considering bring small children are urged to be mindful of physical.
Hikers are welcome to join the outing for just one day. For a full schedule, details, and to RSVP by June 3, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 423/948-5538.
