The Second Annual Family Fun Day – Pickin’ in the Park is set for Sept. 6 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. at Clinchco Ball Field.
The event, sponsored by the town of Clinchco and Appalachian Production Services, is a fundraiser for Zoe’s Blessings, a local non-profit organization that helps families of sick or special needs children in need of assistance.
The event will feature bluegrass and gospel bands all day, including Linda Dixon, The Gospel Lights, New Harvest Brothers, South Mountain Boys, Gospel Grass Trio, Junior Branham, The Holbrooks and The Patriots.
Inflatables and games will be available for children. Softball and corn hole tournaments are planned too. A dunk tank and “jail and bail” will also be part of the activities, along with several more events.
The entrance fee will be a $1 donation per person. Tickets for kids games and activities will be 25 cents per ticket.
Zoe’s Blessings is in its third year of serving local families of sick or special needs children. The organization also serves Monroe Carrell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt with yearly donations of supplies off of the hospital’s wish list, as well as Holston Valley Hospital’s NICU and PICU with donations of socks and blankets during the holiday season.
The mission also adopts one family at Christmas who has sick or special needs children and are financially struggling. The mission provides the family with groceries, all items needed for a holiday dinner and gifts for the entire family.
Over the past two years, estimated contributions to the organization were more than $20,000. The charity has helped families in this area as well as in other areas in Virginia, Tennessee and West Virginia.
As of last year, the organization is run through Clinchco Missionary Baptist Church.
The mission is planning other fundraisers throughout the fall and winter including a 5K glow run and charity auction.
