Christmas parades brighten weather
Participants and spectators braved soggy weather Thursday and Friday evenings as the Big Stone Gap and Appalachia Christmas parades brightened the two towns.
First Christian Church of Appalachia, building on the “Make a Joyful Noise” theme, had the winning float in both the Appalachia and Big Stone Gap parades. The judges tabbed the Appalachia Womans Club and the Lion’s Club as the second- and third-place church/civic entries in the Appalachia parade.
Barbette’s School of Dance, Pizza Plus and Appalachia Fire Department were the winning business entries in the Appalachia parade. The Appalachia Division 2 cheerleaders, Crunch Bunch and Appalachia Rescue Squad were the winning volunteer entries.
Long-time community volunteer Bonnie Ireson was the grand marshal of the Appalachia parade.
Inflatable Connection and Double D Tire were the winning business entries in the Big Stone Gap parade.
The Big Stone Gap grand marshals were Dari Delite’s Gary Hall and Charlie and Betty Fannon. Dari Delite is the 2013 Gap Partnership business of the year and the Fannons are the citizens of the year.
