Greg “Butch” Dalton, who succumbed to cancer last December, was a hunter and fisherman who championed outdoors issues while serving on Big Stone Gap Town Council.
To recognize his dedication, Councilwoman Crystal Lyke Tuesday suggested naming the town’s annual kids’ fishing day after Dalton.
“He loved fishing, and he loved Big Cherry, and I think that would be a great way to remember him,” Lyke said at council’s workshop meeting. “I don’t know if we could do that.”
Councilman James “Cotton” Stone noted that Dalton always brought up outdoors issues while serving on council, and Mayor Nancy Bailey suggested the kids’ event, normally held in May, could be called Butch Dalton Fishing Day.
Town Manager Pat Murphy said the kids’ fishing day has not yet been scheduled.
