Wise County School Board Tuesday night hired Mike Goforth — currently the principal at a rival school system in Norton — as the new principal at Union High School.

Goforth had been vice principal at Union when Norton City Schools hired him just last year to become principal at Burton High School.

Union Principal Dan Roop has been transferred to principal at the Alternative Education Center.

These actions were not noted by the board. They were part of a routine personnel list of changes passed as a group without discussion or comment.

Not on that list was anything about Union head basketball Coach Zack Moore, whose status in the job drew supporters — and the coach, too — to plea for his continued service in that role amid unspecified community controversy involving some students.
